Through the DCI Judge Candidate Academy, the DCI judge administration team provides a comprehensive education process for individuals accepted into the training programs. Applicants can self-select one of two tracks: <strong>DCI Judge Diversity Fellowship<\/strong> or <strong>DCI Trial Judge Program<\/strong>, as described below.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e0d5848 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e0d5848\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">DCI Judge Diversity Fellowship<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a0506ff elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a0506ff\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Xzvir2MPrPo?si=MvdDuxTZCYhWtq6K\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Launched in 2023<\/a>, the Judging Diversity Fellowship\u2019s goal is to expand the DCI judging roster through proactive recruitment of individuals from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. The program provides guided training and support to help participants explore the path toward becoming skilled DCI judge.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0c40031 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0c40031\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">DCI Trial Judge Program<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e77cd44 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e77cd44\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The DCI Trial Judge Program accepts applicants with significant experience in judging the marching arts. Training develops the unique skillset required to adjudicate contemporary drum corps and the application of the DCI judging philosophy.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c29efbc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c29efbc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Experience<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5d984cc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5d984cc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The expectation for prospective judge candidates is that they have background in one or more areas of the marching arts, as follows:<\/p><ul><li>Prior judging experience in a marching arts activity (minimum two years preferred)<\/li><li>Prior experience as a writer, designer, performer, and\/or instructor in the marching arts is highly desirable (minimum two years preferred)<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-294f744 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"294f744\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Application materials<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-17eb937 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"17eb937\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Candidates meeting the above requirements must submit required information and documentation (outlined below) <a href=\"https:\/\/dci.formstack.com\/forms\/judge_application\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by form<\/a> by <strong>January 4, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p><ul><li>Cover letter (PDF) that expresses interest and indicates specific background emphasis (brass, percussion, visual, color guard)<\/li><li>Resume or CV (PDF), that includes marching arts experience as judge, writer, designer, and\/or instructor<\/li><li>Detailed copy of judging schedule for the past two years, listing dates, contests, locations, and captions judged<\/li><li>Supporting materials:<ul><li>2-3 examples of previously recorded judging commentary, submit different captions if available<\/li><li>2-3 recaps or tote sheets from contests judged<\/li><li>Videos and\/or audio recordings of candidate\u2019s bands, drum corps, color guards, drum lines<\/li><li>2-3 written letters of recommendation from recognized individuals who are familiar with the candidate\u2019s judging skills and performance<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Through the DCI Judge Diversity Fellowship<em>, <\/em>DCI and the DCI Judge administration team are committed to increasing the diversity of the DCI judge roster. The program is comprised of online asynchronous sessions, Zoom sessions, one pre-season in-person meeting with the DCI judge education team, and when possible, focused training during in-season trial judging overseen by members of the DCI judge education team.<\/li><li>Prior to the start of the competitive season, successful completion of the current pre-season Thinkific judge training modules (same as all active DCI judges must complete) and review of the DCI Judge Manual<\/li><li>Trial judge at two to four DCI competitions and attend other judge training weekends as deemed appropriate by the DCI Judge Administration Team.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd87857 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fd87857\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Selection criterion<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5d070e1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5d070e1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In reviewing applications, the DCI Judge Administration Team considers the following elements of the applicant\u2019s portfolio:<\/p><ul><li>Knowledge and skills necessary to effectively develop into a DCI judge with the potential to meaningfully contribute to the DCI judging roster<\/li><li>Background and experience in the marching arts activities with specific focus on judging experiences and diversity<\/li><li>Letters of recommendation<\/li><li>Quality of the judging materials submitted<\/li><li>Commitment to ongoing judge education. Growth mindset is a major expectation from judge administration and the corps. Judges must be committed to necessary efforts in education and training to keep pace with the continually evolving standards of excellence at the highest levels.<\/li><li>Ability to judge more than one music caption (brass or percussion, plus music analysis or general effect) or more than one visual caption (field visual, visual analysis, general effect, color guard)<\/li><li>For those individuals with minimal judging experience, commitment to participate in DCI training and trial judging, along with pursuing opportunities in other marching arts activities, if possible. If necessary, training may extend beyond one year.<\/li><\/ul><p>Invitations to judge candidates for the upcoming season will be issued by the DCI judge administrator or designee by <strong>March 15<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Training begins in <strong>late April<\/strong> and includes regular training sessions to the start of the DCI Summer Tour.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6e74d1e elementor-align-center elementor-widget elementor-widget-button\"
