Directors of those competing groups sought to unite their corps by providing opportunities to perform together\u2014in the end building a foundation for future success.<\/p><p>A non-profit\u00a0entity was officially established in 1972, and today DCI supports\u00a0numerous programs around the globe while sanctioning participating recognized drum corps,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundsport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SoundSport<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0performance ensembles and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.drumlinebattle.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DrumLine Battle\u2122<\/a> teams performing in nearly a hundred competitive events that make up the annual Drum Corps International Tour.<\/p><p>With a vast reach online at DCI.org, through corporate sponsorship, annual broadcast initiatives, and outreach to high school music programs, Drum Corps International delivers the message of \u201cexcellence in performance and in life\u201d to more than 7.2 million young people, ages 13-22 involved in the performing arts across the United States.
